I am new to excel and trying to convert a spreadsheet i got which came with
fractions, I would like to convert them to decimals.

can you post example of the 'fraction' cell contents to be converted?

fractions are only one type of format

select format in the top menu bar, cells, number, and change from fraction
to number

You just need to format the cell.
The cell contains a "real number" as mathematicians call a number which is
not an integer
In your worksheet, it has been formatted to show as a fraction, you need to
format it as a number
Select the cell; use CTRL+1 to open the formatting dialog and set format to
Number with 3 decimals
