Countif
 

I need a function formula that will count text entries in 2 columns. i.e. B &
D and C & D
The spread sheet is thus:
A B C D
alpha x x
Beta
Charlie x x x
Delta x
Echo x

Result 2 1

I have tried Countif with embeding AND but get error message. and
Sumproduct(B2:B5="*",D2:D5="*")
but no luck there either. Please help.

Maybe something like this?

=SUMPRODUCT(--(ISTEXT(B2:B5)),--(ISTEXT(D2:D5)))

Or
=SUMPRODUCT(SIGN(ISTEXT(B2:B5)+(ISTEXT(C2:C5))),--(ISTEXT(D2:D5)))
if you want to count "(B or C) and D".
