drag down

i have a cell formatted as Text

if i enter a number and use the little lower right box to drag down, it adds
one to each cell. so if i enter 01 and drag down it enters 02,03,04 in the
next three cells.

Can i stop this...i just want to see 01,01,01,
thanks in advance for any advice,
tami

Jacob Skaria

drag down

Interestingly it behaves if you try the other way

Enter 1; Format cell as Text and then try dragging..

If you are looking at filling the same value then try this. Enter 01Select
the cell and the cells downKeeping the selection hit Ctrl + D

Tami

drag down

thanks much. I have a lot of inexperienced users that i need to train on
this when they are populating this worksheet so i needed something easy. so
as you suggested i entered in 01 then prior to dragging down i hold my
control key then drag and it worked!...i should be albe to train them to do
that prior to dragging but in addition is there a way to turn off/disable the
"incrementing" of 1 when dragging?

Gord Dibben

drag down

In cases like this I right-click and drag.

Release the button and select "Copy cells"
