Format Cols

I've got an Excel workbook that contains many license numbers and I need to
format the column so that if a license number has several 0s in front, they
aren't automatically truncated by Excel. I tried general, number, and text
formats but they truncate leading 0s. Any ideas? Thanks.

CLR

TEXT formatting should work fine........

Highlight the column, Right-click . FormatCells NumberTab select TEXT
OK........then enter your numbers with the leading zeros.....and all the
rest of the numbers........they will be all left-justified.

If you are copying something to the column, then use "PasteSpecial Values"
to prevent the formatting being changed during copying.....

Max

And if you want it as numbers but displaying the leading zeros,
try selecting the col, then:
Format Cells Custom
Enter in the "Type:" box: 000000 (say)

Now if you enter:
99, it'll appear as: 000099
999 will appear as: 000999
and so on

Adapt to suit (the number of zeros in "Type" box)
