SMASE, Inc.

date formatting
 
currently i have a date such as this in a the field; 08/13/2009, i want to
create another column and show only the year. how can this be done.
assistance is appreciated. working on this report now and due soon. help.

say your date is in cell K17, then in any other cell:
=YEAR(K17)

=YEAR(A1) works to get the year VALUE in the other cell

=A1 in the other cell and give the custom format of yyyy will leave the
date in the second cell and DISPLAY the year
