can i test a cell to see if it is one of 2 results using an
=If(a1="","Unsold","sold") formula and then colour it RED dependant on result

eg result is Sold but I want to automatically colour the text RED but if the
result is Unsold leave as black text

Use Conditonal Formatting

Select Cell(s) and go to Format|Conditional Formatting and select Cell
Value Is from 1st drop down..

enter: ="Sold"

Click Format and choose Red from the Font tab.
