Hi,
Is this data in 1 or 2 columns? Assuming 2: Then put your cursor in the first column and click the Ascending Sort, then choose Data, Subtotal, set At each change in to the first column, set Use function to Count, under Add subtotal to check the first column, click OK Alternatively =COUNTIF(A1:A100,"CA") or =COUNTIF(A1:A100,D1) where D1 contains CA -- If this helps, please click the Yes button. I read your question slightly differently: you want to sum all the numbers
in column B where the corresponding A value is CA. =SUMIF(A1:A100,"CA",B1:B100) best wishes -- Bernard Liengme MVP Excel http://people.stfx.ca/bliengme "CC Bulinski" <CC wrote in message ...
