Hello...
my questions is concerning functions...
SD - Strongly Disagree
D - Disagree
N - No Opinion
A - Agree
SA - Strongly Agree
i would like to add values to these phrases if you will...ie, SD = 1, D =
2,etc...
i want to see the wrds in the original cell and get the numeric value when i
enter the SD in another cell

Hi,
assuming that your words are in column A enter your numbers in column B,
then lets say that in column C you enter the words and want in column D to
get the number. In column D enter

=SUMPRODUCT(--($A$1:$A$5=C2),--$B$1:$B$5)

If you have more than 5 words just change the range from A5 and B5 to your
needs
