How to insert $ and ‚¬ amounts in the same worksheet?

I am filling in a worksheet with both ‚¬ and $ amounts and Excel keeps
reverting to ‚¬ when I try to write $. I have tried deleting all the figures
in one column and redoing them but nothing seems to work.
