Hi,

F4 is the toggle key for absolute and relative referencing I.e. $ sign
before rows and columns.

In xl 2003 (probably the same in xl 2007)
F4 is the function key to rapidly toggle between the 4 cell ref states
ie to rapidly insert or remove the $ signs,
instead of you having to type-in/delete the $ signs manually

In the formula bar, within the formula itself, either
place your cursor (for a single cell ref) next to/within the cell ref
or, highlight carefully the range/part thereof (for a range)

Then you can press/tap F4
to rapidly toggle between the 4 cell ref states, eg:

=A1
=A$1
=$A1
=$A$1

Play around, you'd get the hang of it quite fast

Hi,

The F4 key is a shortcut key for 3 different things in Excel, depending on
where you a

1. If editing or building a formula F4 toggles through the for
relative/absolute options as mentioned in the prior emails.
2. If you are in the spreadhseet F4 is repeat last command. That means if
you have just Bolded a cell and move to a new cell and press F4 that new cell
is formatted bold.
3. If your cursor is in must combo boxes, drop down list, F4 opens the drop
down. For example if you cursor is in the Font box and then F4 to list of
fonts are displayed.
