I am having trouble closing either the footer or the header once I make my
entry.

How do I close the footer feature in excel 2007 once entered
 

You just click on the OK. Unfortunately, the OK from the underlying dialogue
box still shows, and it can confuse people (like me). So you have to make
sure you click on the right one.
