Conditional Formatting

How can I use conditional formatting for a value inside a cell? For example I
have a cell with the value V10 inside and I want to trigger conditional
formatting only with V not by the V10.

try something like this....
data in g7...adjust to suit..
select g7 and in the CF dialog.....
formula is......=IF(LEFT(G7,1)="v",1,0).....,pick your format
