Cant get column to format

Hi all. Need your expertise as I am pulling my hair out. I am exporting
information into an excel sheet but it will not allow me to change the date
value that comes over so I can sort the information. I have tried formatting,
copying and paste special with values only, paste special with multiplying by
one from a cell that was formatted as number and nothing. I looked for any
conditional formatting and to no avail. I can not export the information any
other way than copying and pasting. I am using Excel 2003.

Any help would be truly appreciated. Thanks a bunch

The problem is that the date is actually a Text value. Say the value is in
A1, in B1 enter:
=datevalue(A1)
and copy down

You can format the new column to any date format you like.

I am not sure if this will work or not. Try highlighting the cells you want
to change the format and do a Text to Columns and specify that you want the
cells to be date formatted.
