How do I get the horizontal split box back?

I have a spreadsheet that has data on it and would like to view the bottom
and top at the same time. I also want to be able to scroll each pane. The
problem is that the horizontal and vertical split boxes are not there. Where
did they go, or more importantly: how can I get them back?
When I open a new spreadsheet, the split boxes are there. It's just on the
spreadsheets that are already in use that the boxes aren't there.

Well, that's backwards from most.

Window Menu: Split.
Or double click (or click-and-drag) on the tiny little bar just above
the scroll up button for the horizontal split. And the little bar just
to the right of the scroll right button for vertical split.

Double clicking doesn't work either because the tiny bar isn't there. That's
what I was referring to when I said the split boxes aren't there.
Thanks anyway!

Do you have Freeze Panes turned on? You can't use both Freeze and
Split.

OMG! Thank you so-o-o much. That was definitely the problem. I'm glad it was
something so simple.
