One way,

Select the column of data then
Format|Conditional format
Formula is
=COUNTIF($A$1:$A$1000,A1)1
Pick a colour.
OK

Duplicates will be highligted.

doesnt matter because as soon as it occurs twice I want to trigger a user
form that will say " youve already made the same selection choose again" or
words to that effect
