i'm trying to copy a cell (both text and format) from one tab to another tab
within the same document but keep getting just the text. is there a formula
aside from '=Sheet1!' that will work for it?

If you'll use formulas is not possible to copy the formats from one cell to
another. To have also the formats copied use the Paste Special, option Format.
