Data Items go missing once unchecked
 

hello,
I check and uncheck items from the data dropdown box on many occations but
today if I uncheck an item on the list, the item disappears from the list
permentantly. I then have to add it back in from the layout. What's up with
that? I am using Excel 2003.

When you clear a checkbox in a data field dropdown list, you're removing
the field from the pivot table layout. Just like a row field that was
removed, you have to drag it back to the pivot table layout, in order to
see it again.

There has to be something else. As I stated, I have checked and unchecked
items form a list and the list never changes on other pivot tables, some that
I have created and some that have been given to me. Why is it this time the
items are gone?

You can check and uncheck items in the row field dropdowns and the
column field dropdowns. Maybe that's what you're remembering.
If you uncheck an item that's in the data area, it's removed from the list.
