Pull down "Save As". From the save dialog box, I pull down "Excel 97-2003
Format" and click save. Excel says that the file is still in compatibility
mode.

To top that, Excel is constantly finding unreadable content with files that
are saved as off the master.

Even worse, none of my word documents will convert to 2007.

Does anyone from Microsoft monitor these forums? They don't have bug
reporting page and they charge for chatting with a support tech. Ridiculous.

Now, I have a spreadsheet that is in 95 format, which I need to keep in 95,
but, when I save the spreadsheet, Excel saves it as a 97-2003 file. Any
ideas?

I would agree that many of Microsoft's ways are ridiculous. And I
doubt there is anyone monitoring this group in order to fix stuff.

v95 is very old at this point. You don't seem to have 95, why do you
have to save in that format? I don't like it when companies obsolete
old software too fast, but this is many generations later. Not just
generations of Office, but Windows, CPUs, etc. Might just be time for
someone to upgrade a little.

Or, if you are working on clients' files and don't have control over
what versions you get, you should really maintain a computer with
older software for occasional use. Or tell them that you are
incompatible.

And for your questions from July, it is confusing as to what you are
trying to do. You want to save it in 2007 xml format? Then why are you
choosing "Excel 97-2003 Format"? One solution, if it is for only a few
files, is to copy the data into a new file. Sometimes that works
better, esp when switching file formats, which v2007 has just done for
the first time in many years.

I'm using 2007

Yes, however, the third or forth time I save the spreadsheet, it is
converted to the 2003-2007 format without prompting me to do so. So, I'm
constantly "Save AS" the file. I need to keep this file as a 95 spreadsheet
in order to work with our payroll department, which the manager thereof
hasn't yet decided to upgrade.

Spiky,

Regarding your question, the spreadsheet I have is in 95 format--.xls. I am
trying to convert it to a 2003 - 2007 format. I save the spreadsheet as a
2003-07 file, and when I open it, Excel still shows it in [Compatibility Mode]

Thanks for the input.

I also don't have 2007, so no experience. But it really sounds like
the problem is the guy with only version 95. It's time to move up
after 13 years.

One tip I can offer is that F12 is Save As...might be slightly faster
than the menu.
