group items in pivot table
once i create a pivot table, i'm trying to group items and it seems most of
the time i cannot, for items that are numbers (not general). i have a "age" column it works with, this is a "general" field, not a number field and it works fine. i have other columns, such as height and weight, and these do not work (these are in cm and i've tried both general and numbers). any advice on when the grouping works and when it doesn't would be great. tia |
group items in pivot table
If the height and weight data contains text, such as 100 cm, then you
won't be able to use the Grouping dialog box in the pivot table. Only numbers and dates can be grouped in the dialog box. You can manually select and group the text items. Or, add a field to the source data, and enter a group name there, such as 1-100 cm Ann wrote: once i create a pivot table, i'm trying to group items and it seems most of the time i cannot, for items that are numbers (not general). i have a "age" column it works with, this is a "general" field, not a number field and it works fine. i have other columns, such as height and weight, and these do not work (these are in cm and i've tried both general and numbers). any advice on when the grouping works and when it doesn't would be great. tia -- Debra Dalgleish Contextures http://www.contextures.com/tiptech.html |
