SUMPRODUCT Qusetion

What is the difference between these two formulas?
sumproduct((RangeA=CriteriaA)*(rangeB=CriteriaB)*( SumRange))
sumproduct(--(RangeA=CriteriaA),--(rangeB=CriteriaB),--(SumRange))

What exactly "--" represent?
