Hi, I hope someone can help me with this issue
I get an error message "too many different formats" when I try to add a tab
to the existing excel working doc. Not sure if there is a limit to the number
of worksheets a doc can hold?

There was a limit on the number of different cell formats in Excel
2003 and earlier, as explained in this Knowledge Base article:

Essentially, you should simplify your design and remove some of the
formats you are using.
