Formulas in a cell

I have a spreadsheet where i have simple adding and subtracting formulas but
when i enter any value on the cells the formula doesnt calculate it, i have
to double click the the cell with the formula in order for it to calculate
it. Any help on how to get rid of that?

ex
A1=5
A2=3
A3 = SUM(A1,A2) bUT I HAVE TO DOUBLE CLICK A3 IN ORDER FOR THE FORMULA TO
CALCULATE THE SUM OF A1 AND A2

Most times setting the calculation mode to "Automatic" looks after that.

ToolsOptionsCalculation

Now you're going to ask how it got turned to "manual"

The first workbook opened in a session of Excel governs the calc mode setting
for all subsequent workbooks opened in same session.

Good chance that is what happened.
