In Excell, how do I change the date from 39443 to 12/27/08?

One page in Excell 2005 suddenly started putting all the dates just numbers,
such as 39443. I can copy a cell with a number and paste it into another
cell in another page and it will display the correct date. I've tried
formatting the cells but nothing I've tried will work.

Try this. press Ctrl+Accent grave, the key above the tab key and to the left
of the 1 key.

Perhaps you are in "View Formula" mode in that sheet(not "page")

Hit CTRL + ` to toggle out of that mode.
