named ranges?
 

I have named some ranges and wish to apply them to all the formula in my
worksheet. I have looked through the help, and it has told me to select a
blank cell, go to the drop down menu Insert, choose Name and then Apply. Then
to choose the name and click Ok.

I have done this but get the message 'Microsoft Office Excel cannot find any
references to replace.' pops up.

The part of the formula i need to change is Parameters!$B$165 and i need to
change it to Analysis_Period. I know i can do a find and replace, but i would
like to know why the apply function isn't working.

Any suggestions?

Is the name referring to an absolute range?

You have to select the range(s) that contain all of the formulas that refer
to the cells in the named range before you do the apply. Excel is looking in
your selection for formulas to change. You chose a blank cell. Nothing to
change there.

Yes the named arange is an absolute range. Is this what could be causing the
problems?

I have tried selecting all the cells containing the formula to change, and as
i mentoned I used the help function which told me to select a blank cell to
change the entire worksheet. Neither of which works for some reason.

You cannot change the formulas by selecting a blank cell. To change the
entire worksheet you can select any cell and press Ctrl+A or select the cell
to the left of Column A and above Row 1. Then you can apply the named
ranges. If Excel does not apply the named ranges, it means that none of the
formulas in the selected cells refer to the addresses in the named ranges.

I have tried selecting the entire worksheet by doing what you mentioned, but
to no avail. I know and can see that i have formulas that refer to the
address in the named range.

I think i'll have to revert to a find and replace.

That is what Excel does. It looks at the addresses in the formulas to see if
they match a named range and if so, Excel inserts the name.
