Copying formula into another worksheet

Can anyone please help me, I am trying to copy a formula =(sump1:p3) from one
worksheet into a new worksheet. When I go to paste the formula the only
thing that comes up is =SUM(#REF!). Can I even copy and paste a formula from
one worksheet into a new worksheet? and if so how? Thanks

I assume that you mean =sum(p1:p3) , not =(sump1:p3) ?

Yes, you can copy from one sheet to another. If you have the formula in row
4, for example, and just copy the cell and paste into row 6 (on that sheet
or another sheet) it would give =sum(p3:p5); conversely if you try to copy
into row 2 it would try to subtract 2 from the row numbers, and as it can't
subtract 2 rows from P1 you get the #REF!. If you want the =sum(p1:p3) to
stay unchanged as you copy it, you can copy from the formula bar rather than
just copying the cell.
