I am using a Vlookup function that displays the value in the formula drop
down boxes but only displays the formula in the cell when completed. |

The cell was probably formatted as Text *before* you entered the formula
itself. Try this on a "bad" formula cell, Select the cell, then: <Ctrl <Shift <~, Then<F2, Then<Enter.
