excel 2000
 

In the last year, whenever I use Excel 2000 spreadsheet, I key in a
number [eg: 500 creates 5.00]. I have attempted to change the cell
format to 'General' without success. Changing to 'Number' brings the
same result except that the number is truncated [5]. This has become
very annoying and time consuming when I make entries. I have not been
able to find any info.
Perhaps you can help.

As you described it, it just sounds like you are typing a '5' into the sheet,
and Excel is behaving as it normally should/would. Try to delete the
problematic cell(s) and simply type in the '500' again. You can change the
formatting to some custom-type, but I don't think this will resolve your
specific issue.

Tools|Options|Edit Tab
Uncheck Fixed Decimals

It's useful for accountant types who don't want to be slowed down when they're
doing lots of data entry.
