Insert column : lose inclusion in functions

I have found in Excel 2007 on occasions, when I add a column I lose the
inclusion within a sum function, even 'though I have inserted the new column.

I have now discovered a similar situation in a =vlookup function, which now
requires me to adjust the col-index-num, wheras I am accustomed to this being
automatic.

Insert column : lose inclusion in functions

AFAIK, the column index never updated automatically. I just tested with Excel2003 and it doesn't update there. The range of the
lookup table will be updated, but not the column index
