linking worksheets

I'm trying to link two worksheets and I know how to link cells between sheets
but if I try to link blank cells the destination cells have zeros, how do I
get rid of zeros without losing the links. This seems to be a 2000, 2002, and
2003 problem. Help Please. Thanks.

I like:

=if(sheet2!a1="","",sheet2!a1)

Then cells that are really 0 come through ok.
