Are you for real?

if yes:
The weight doesn't matter, unless you want to calculate how much gas
he uses.

the speed is: distance / time
600 km / 4.5h = 133 1/3 km/h

I guess i did not mention gas...sorry

It is a project i am trying to help my son with. IF THERE IS MORE PAssengers
then i am sure the gas will make the diff. what will the formula then be ??
use yoyr own discretion regarding the amount of fuel used.

Hi shabs

i think, that there is too many information missing.

If you want to know how fast he is, it does not matter how many
passengers there are.
If you want to do 600km in 4.5h, you always have to drive with 133 1/3
km/h (average speed)
it doesn't matter if you have 8 people in the car, or if you ride on a
horse.

You need to give us a little bit more information.
(How old is your son? Just to make sure, that we're not going over the
top with this :) )

HOW TO CALCULATE SPEED IF A CAR TRAVELS 600KM IN 4 HRS CARRYIN

The speed of the car is only based on miles traveled and time to travel. 600
KM in 4.3 Hours is
600/4.3 = 139.5349 KM/Hr

Neither the weight of the load nor the amount of fuel used plays into speed,
not directly.

Quite often in 'word questions' information is given, such as the weight of
the passengers, that is NOT needed to solve the problem. This is included to
see if the student can pick out the pieces that ARE needed from among a lot
of information. So the fact that there was 60Kg of passengers might have
been mentioned just to see if you and he would ignore it or get confused by
it being there.

Also, be sure that it is 4.3 hours (4 hours 20 minutes) and not 4 hours and
30 minutes (4.5 hours). At 4.5 hours the speed would be
600/4.5 = 133.3333 KM/Hr
