Default #ref appears when selecting cell in other worksheet

When entering "=" then selecting cell on another worksheet,
then hitting enter, the result is that the cursor moves to the other
worksheet and gives a reference #ref for the same sheet.
example:
on tab 1, a1, enter =
click on tab 2, then click on cell A4, then enter.
the cursor moves to tab2,A4 and gives the ref:
sheet2!#ref
