Is there an icon to use showing visible cells only?
 

You mean to limit the selection to visible cells only?

In xl2003:
tools|customize|Commands tab|Edit Category|look for Select visible cells
Drag it to your favorite toolbar

Or hit alt-;
(alt-semicolon)

Right click on one of the toolbars and select Customize. Click on the
Commands tab of the dialig box. Select Edit from the Categories
listbox. The Select Visible Cells button is located near the bottom
of the Commands list box. Simply click and drag it to the location on
the toolbar where you want it to be placed.
