Does font color affect sorting a list in Excel?
 

None of the Help links answered my question. I need to know if using font
colors prevents me from alphabetizing a list.
My Excel spreadsheet, which is a list of names and addresses, uses several
different colors of font (as a code), and suddenly will not "sort" using Data
- Sort by - Then by (as it always has done with no problem.) Does font color
affect the ability to sort by alphabet in a chosen column?

No not at all. Indeed, if you want to sort by colour, it requires some extra
work.

What exactly happens, and are you sure it is not already sorted? Show us
some data, and describe exactly what you did.

Font color will not affect the alphabetic sorting of a list.

Color, whether it be font or background, is a Format only and does not affect
the underlying value of the data in cells.
