i want to have cells that get their answer by cross referencing another cell.
i want 2 different cells to get an answer when the cell beside them is given
a certain value. for example. i am given an inclines gradient which means a
vehicle can only go a certain speed and a certain acceleration due to this
gradient. i want to set up a system where i put in a gradient value and the
two cells beside it produce values for speed and acceleration. there is a
table on a constants page with a list of gradiants and beside the list of
gradiants is the list of speeds and accelerations related to that
gradient.any help?

It sounds like you could use the VLOOKUP function to pull in the speed and
acceleration once the gradient is typed in. It will look for the gradient in
the first column of the reference table and pull in the data from another
column you specify. Follow the instructions in Excel Help to apply it to
your situation, and write back if stuck.
