Searching within an excel document
I have created a worksheet containing a large number of telephone numbers -
other than using find, is there a way of conducting multiple searches within a document or gorup of documents? Thanks, TW |

It may be easier to answer if you could explain what functionality you need
that find doesn't provide. Mike "Willsecur" wrote: I have created a worksheet containing a large number of telephone numbers - other than using find, is there a way of conducting multiple searches within a document or gorup of documents? Thanks, TW |
Searching within an excel document
Hi Mike - the excel worksheet I have created contains several hundred
telephone numbers - I need to check up to 100 seperate numbers against this document, to ascertain whether they are included and to identify each one in turn. Using "Find" will only identify one number at a time - I am trying to reduce my time and effort - does that explain it better? Thanks, TW "Mike H" wrote: It may be easier to answer if you could explain what functionality you need that find doesn't provide. Your "document" is an Excel workbook with multiple worksheets?
What type of multiple searches do you need? On each sheet you could use an Autofilter to filter for a number or groups of numbers withing a range of numbers. EditFind will work across multiple sheets. EditFind will not work across separate workbooks. More detail might allow for a less generic answer. Hi Gord,
I am analising telephone data to establish links between one subscriber in respect of whom all their calls for a given period are input into a worksheet, and numbers of other individuals. This means checking within the worksheet for any of 100 other numbers. Having identified such calls, then I create additional worksheets to show the links. What I am seeking is a way of searching within the worksheet for the "100" numbers. I am currently using find for each number which is taking a loing time. Whjat I am asking is whether it is possible to "search" on several of the numbers at any one time and thereby reduce my time. I agree that using the filter does assist, but only when an idenftified number is found. It is then possible to identify all calls made by that number within the period. If this is not clear please let me know and I will try and elobarate further In the meantime, thanks for your response. Hi
Dependent upon your data layout, it sounds as though you might be able to use a Pivot Table for this. For more help on setting up Pivot Tables check out the following sites http://www.contextures.com/tiptech.html and scroll down to Pivot Tables http://www.edferrero.com/ExcelTutori...9/Default.aspx http://www.datapigtechnologies.com/f...es/pivot1.html -- Regards Roger Govier "Willsecur" wrote in message ...
