Copying a forumula to many cells -but keeping one element static

Hi,

I wonder if anyone can help. I have a worksheet, in which I want to work out
the percentage of a whole represented by a number of variables. So, the value
of each variable is listed in column c, from c4 to c69 €“ cell c70 calculates
the total.

To work out the percentage of the total made up by the value in cell c4 I
enter the following into cell d4 =c4/c70, and then format the cell as a
percentage.

However, if I drag and copy this formula down the column, it changes to
=c5/c71 and so on. I dont want to have to enter each formula by hand, so I
need to find a way of dragging and copying which allows the first value to
change, while c70 remains constant.

Can anyone tell me how to do this? All and any help very gratefully received.

Thanks

Karl

Absilute referencing is what you want

$C$70

will not change when dragged
