When I type (R) in a cell Excel injects ®.

How do I turn this automatic feature off. What is it?

It is part of the Auto-correct feature. Excel is substituting the symbol for
a registered servicemark /trademark

To stop it, go to Tools-Auto-correct. Find (r) in the list and delete it
