what is purpose of asterisk in date format *3/2/07?
excel2003 what is purpose of asterisk in date format *3/2/07? when i use advance filter, a line with a date in it formated with the asterisk gets filtered out, even though the data in the line satisfies all criteria and should not be filtered out. why? |

Does the asterisk appear in the formula bar when you select that cell? (or is
it the result of a formula?) If it does, then that's not from number formatting. If you're asking about the format|cells|number tab|date category dialog warning: Date formats display date and time serial numbers as date values. Except for items that have an asterisk (*), applied formats do not switch date orders with the operating system. Then these dates may display differently on pcs that have a different windows short date format.
