Excel 2007 defining names (areas)

I've just upgraded from Excel 2003 - 2007, and I'm having problems with the
functionality of named ranges in 2007: Let me try to explain:

"Tables" in 2007 replaces "Lists" functionality from 2003. Previously in
2003 I could define a name inside a List, ex. only one of the columns (a
subset) and the named area would increase itself when new rows were added to
the List.

In 2007, if I define a name within a table definition it does not expand
along with the table itself.

Hope this wasn't too confusing, and I hope that someone can tell me if this
is an error in 2007 and if so, how to overcome it. I'm pretty sure that
functionality has not been taken away by intention, but how do I achive my
goal:

- to define a subset within the table to increase dynamically when the table
grows.

Thank you for taking the time, and I'll be very grateful for any help you
can give.
