update subtotals based on filters

How can I create a subtotal that is updated based upon my filter?
It seems as if the subtotal calculates all values of the column, instead of
the values showing when I apply my filter.

thanks in advance,
Ned.

it sounds as though you are using the wrong funtion number in subtotal
1-11 include hidden numbers, 101-111 exclude hidden numbers
