go to a specific letter in a list
Dear All,
i have a list created, with a lot of customers (its a dropdown list, where you can roll to the desired customer). Is it possible to do the following: if i start to write in the customer name; (let's say Hilton), than at Hi it gives me the Hilton name already (of course if there is no more with Hi start. I hope it is clear:-) thx a lot Peter |

See Debra Dalgleish's coverage of the Data Validation/Combo Box topic at her
website: http://www.contextures.com/xlDataVal10.html Is that something you can work with? *********** Regards, Ron XL2002, WinXP "Petya" wrote: Dear All, i have a list created, with a lot of customers (its a dropdown list, where you can roll to the desired customer). If this is an already defined data validation list, your idea does not work
unfortunately.. "Toppers" wrote: Use the Combo box from the "Control Toolbox " toolbar and in Properties (right click on Combo box) set ListFillRange to your data list. Type in (start of) name and you will get full name. HTH "Petya" wrote: Dear All, i have a list created, with a lot of customers (its a dropdown list, where you can roll to the desired customer). Petya
In xl2k you can sort your list "ascending" and at each change in the first letter of your list, insert a cell and place the appropriate letter. In your dropdown just enter the first letter and the click the dropdown arrow and you are at the beginning of that part of your list. Does that help? Hi
Debra's technique at the location already given to you does work. However, if you are having difficulties with using the Combo box, there is another, (not as good) method just using the Data Validation itself. It will allow you to type a letter and jump to the first entry with that letter rather than having to scroll through the whole list. http://www.contextures.com/DataValHeadings.zip -- Regards Roger Govier "Petya" wrote in message ... Hi, Thx.For some reason, it does not find my liis, so it looks quite empty..... when i have the combo box...
