Default Sum of numbers help...

Hello, I have come across a problem that I need help with... I have a
worksheet for payroll. On this worksheet it has leave codes (such Annual
Leave A/L, Sick Leave S/L, and so on) these codes are added up at the
bottom. I also have a hours taken of these such leaves.
What I'm needing help with it separte these hours and add them up? I have
tried about everything I know... Can anyone please help me out. If you can,
you may email me at and I can forward you the
worksheet.

Thanks so much!

Gilbert,

I sent you the worksheet back, and it appears that you need to use the sumif
as suggested.

You have multiple ranges and therefore need to do seperate sumifs over the
different ranges.

Try this

assuming that the descriptions are in a1:a1000 and the hours in b1:b1000

=sumif(a1:a1000, "Annual Leave A/L", b1:b1000)
=sumif(a1:a1000, "Sick Leave S/L", b1:b1000)
....
Otherwise send it me at his removing .cutthis.
