I am trying to hide rows and get the error message "connot shift objects off
sheet"

You have 'data' to the right or below where you think

Select A1 and press Ctrl+Right Arrow or Arrow down for rows. This is where
Excel thinks your data goes to.

To correct this, select the whole of the last row/column that Excel 'thinks'
it has and then, holding the shift key down, select the last entire
row/column that you 'know' you have. Now select EditDelete and save the
workbook.

That should fix it

another option is that he has comments somewhere on the worksheet,
removing comments usually solves that error (and is the first source to
look for when you get it)
