Default formulas will not compute

I have a worksheet with some simple formulas, 1 for aging and another to
compute a cell * a fixed number. one is today()-H1, the other is G4*78. The
formula works fine for existing data that is in the spreadsheet. Now for
some reason, when i open the spreadsheet and enter in a value in G4, the cell
the formula is in does not change anymore, it just stays the same. When i
copy the formula and paste it into another cell, the formula reference
updates correctly, but when i put data in the cell the formula refers to, it
does not update the value in the cell. any ideas?
