How do I use the (=) symbol for cut/pasting in excel?

What is the technical term for using the (=) symbol in excel for cutting and
pasting. Are there any links to sites with this information?

Equal Sign, see topic "About calculation operators" in your Excel Help,
but how are you associating this with cutting and pasting

If you paste from a cell to another cell the formula will be adjusted.
If you paste from the formula bar the formula will not be adjusted.
I doubt that is what you are trying to determine though.

I will guess that you mean "linking" by entering the = sign then pointing to
another cell or sheet and hitting ENTER.

Help explains "linking" quite well.
