Otto,

When I am in a cell and use the @sum button to total a column of numbers, a
yellow box appears that has SUM(number1,[number2],... This box is right next
to the cell I am putting the total into. This box is in my way when I am
highlighting the area to sum.

I know what you're talking about, but I don't understand how it would
be in the way. Just out of curiosity, what cells are you trying to
sum, and into which cell are you trying to put the sum?

I don't see what you mean. I see the box but it appears below the
active cell. Post back with specifics about the cells involved. Also,
describe what cells are visible on the screen as you do this. Otto

You can also do this another way. Perhaps that would work for you. In
the cell in which you want the sum, type "=sum(" without the quotes). Then
highlight the cells you want to sum and hit enter. That way, no box appears
anywhere. Otto

To eliminate that tool tip, go to:
<Tools <Options <General tab,
And *UNCHECK*
"Function Tooltips".
