Default Protecting worksheets

I have set up a folder with sever linking worksheets. On these sheets there
are some cells which are constants and some which require input. How do I
protect the sheets so that the constant cells are not altered but alow users
to input info in the requisit cells?

Default Protecting worksheets

This is what I do: (excel 2003)

1) Select all the cells in the sheet.
2) Right click, "Format Cells", "Protection" tab.
3) Either check or un-check the "Locked" box, depending on what the majority
of your cells should be; probably check the box.
4) For each of the cells you want the user to edit, select the cells and
uncheck the "Locked" box (see step 2)
5) From the main menu, "Tools", "Protection", "Protect Sheet" or "Protect
Workbook"
6) You can then turn on protection, use a password to lock out users, and so
on.

This should be enough to get you started, you can read more about protection
and ask more specific questions.
