For dates, copy/paste special/values for 2006 gives me 2010--Why

When copying from one workbook to anather, the day date is one day later and
the year is four years later. Is there some way to fix this?

I think one of the workbooks is set to ordinary dates and the other is set
to the 1904 date system which I believe is something to do with
compatability with Lotus 123.
The answer may be to go on 'Tools' 'Options' 'Calculation' and mke sure
that '1904 Date System' is unchecked in both workbooks,
Regards,
Alan.

Excel has 2 date systems

The default has a start date of 1900 the other 1904. You must have one
of each (are you using a Mac? I believe the default date system there
is 1904)

You can change using

Tools Options Calculation check/uncheck 1904 date system

One workbook was using a base year of 1900 and the other was using 1904.
(tools|options|calculation tab|1904 date system)

One way to add those four years back is to find an empty cell, put 1462 into
that cell.

Copy that cell.

Select your range that contains the dates. Edit|PasteSpecial|click Add (in the
operation box).

You may have to reformat the cell as a date (mine turned to a 5 digit number).
But it should work.

You may want to do it against a copy...just in case.

(I'm not sure which one you'll fix. You may want to edit|pastespecial|click
subtract.)

Most windows users use 1900 as the base date. Mac users (mostly??) use 1904 as
the base date.
