Default VBA password prompt workaround

Hi,
I'm having a problem with the VBA password prompt appearing when I
close out of Excel. I've seen numerous posts about this issue and am
curious about some of the stated fixes for it. If it's simply a
question changing a registry key, then why doesn't MS default it to a
different number? Or is it possible to change the key using VBA? I
don't understand the MS workaround (KB280454) referencing the
ActiveX.dll. They seem to make out to be a more involved issue then
simply having a sharing problem with Google. Any help would be greatly
appreciated. Thanks.
James
