We have a workbook with simple if and sumif and countif statements. The
workbook files size seems to keep growing. Currently at 88MB. What would
cause this?

Many things can cause workbook creep but you don't give much detail.

I would suggest you first go to Debra Dalgleish's site for some info on
clearing up your used range on each sheet.

I am a bit surprised SUMIF & COUNTIF cause this trouble. Orphanned
bulky metadata from drag and drop operations can do it as can ADO.
Particularly in an environment where the document is passed between
different versions of Excel. IME it requires images like JPEG, GIF or
BMP to be involved before you get insane file size increases occurring.
Take a look at MSKB eg

http://support.microsoft.com/default...;en-us;Q293828

It can be informative to export the thing as an HTML file and take a
careful look at whatever other dross is lurking in there.

I tend to see more issues with Word than Excel myself.
